It’s not always about the number of acres you have to manage, but more about the useable space on the property. This could also be understood as suitable acres for bobwhite quail habitat. The bobwhite quail is not a generalist species like whitetail deer, they require specific habitat to be able to survive and reproduce, without it present quail will be extremely limited.
In this podcast, we sit down with Kyle and Frank our bobwhite quail consulting biologist to better understand the foundation of quail or upland land management. Without this base of understanding, the finer details and requirements are null and void. Useable space for bobwhite quail consists of bare ground, woody/shrubby cover, and forbs. These components have to be present on the landscape for quail to persist. The layout and spatial distribution of these key elements are critical as well to survival and high reproduction rates.
