1. Scrub the Background (Crop Your Photos)
Before uploading a buck photo, crop the image tightly around the deer’s body and antlers. Try to eliminate unique background landmarks, field edges, or distinct trees that someone might recognize.

2. Turn Off GPS Data / Exif Metadata
Most modern smartphones and cellular trail cameras automatically embed hidden GPS coordinates into the image file. To protect your location:

• • Take a screenshot of the trail camera photo on your phone or computer, and upload the screenshot instead of the original file. Taking a screenshot completely strips out all hidden location data instantly.

3. Use Anonymous Reference Names
When discussing a target buck, don’t mention road names, creeks, or specific neighborhoods. Give the buck a generic tracking nickname (e.g., “The Split-G2 Buck” or “The Wide 10”) so neighbors can easily chime in if they have him on camera too.
